This varies greatly depending on how often you want to race, and how competitive you want to be. A typical social racer, who competes in a 6-round state series will likely spend around $7,000 per year in maintenance costs, which includes tyre purchases, engine rebuilds, crash fixes, race petrol, entry fees, license fees, and accommodation costs. A serious racer who wishes to race at the front of the field, attends 8 races or more each year with perhaps the interstate national challenge race, and who attends a handful of practice days throughout the year, could spend around $15,000 to $20,000 for a season of racing.
You may also consider leasing a drive with a Formula Vee team. Leasing costs vary, dependent on a number of factors. Generally drive and arrive packages start at $3,500 per round.

Hi,
I’m very serious and interested in joining the Formula Vee series. My name is Matthew Sjostrom and I’m 20 years old. I’d like to say I have the skill and knowledge of racing and have been racing and driving cars for most my life. I currently dont hold any racing licenses, karts or professional experience other than socially competitive car racing at phillip island etc. I also dont have as much money as anyone else would who enters this scene… which discourages me from entering anything seeing as though this is a very expensive industry hence why my parents could never afford to get me into the sport at a young age…
I have read lots about Formula Vee and it intrigues me that it is cheaper than alot of other series’ and has a car that I would love to race.
Where do I go from here?
I’d love to get pricing information and any info on payment plans if any are available because lump sums of money is not within my grasp at the moment, but I dont want my age to keep growing before I get into any of this. I know I’m capable of exceeding limits and climbing up.
Thank you! I look forward to hearing a response from you guys!
Regards,
Matthew Sjostrom

Hello Matthew,
I don’t think there are payment plan options. Your best bet might be trying to rent a car. Talk to your local state club and see if they can help.
