Round 2 of the Formula Vee Australia Series was run earlier this months so we are half way through the series.
Strong interest from interstate 1200 competitors combined with the growing SA 1200 field meant we had 14 1200’s enter. With the continued support of the Sporting Car Club of SA, Formula Vee was given three 1200 only races which was a sight many have no seen at Mallala since the 2010 Nationals. Wade Mclean made a clean sweep of all three races that counted towards the Formula Vee Australia Series and then went on to win the remaining two races making it 5 out of 5 for the weekend which was a great effort. The travelling was not confined to the Tassie duo of Wade and Lindsay Murfet as we had 4 1200’s making it all the way from WA, with Mark Pickett taking home second for the weekend, with Lindsay Murfet coming home in third place.
For the 1600’s the round was again dominated by Michael Kinsella with three from three for the Australia Series but he did not have it all his own way. Check out the incar vision of the dice between Michael, Gary Ogden, Blaine Grilles and Brian Pedersen, from Brian’s cockpit.
Unfortunately Brian suffered an engine failue in race 2 so we only have the one race to look at but Michael, Blaine and Gary continued the close racing for the second and third races and that is the way they finished at the end of the meeting, Michael, Blaine then Gary. Behind Gary, fourth to eighth was only separated by 6 points over the three races which shows how close the field was during the weekend.
Three different chassis making up the podium in both 1200 and 1600 categories has to be good for the sport.
From a SA perspective it was great to see the competitors travelling from interstate
